Daily Kos Elections Weekend Digest

PA-Sen: Casey stomps "Generic Republican"

As Netroots Nation 2011 draws to a close in Minneapolis, the campaign trail rolls along, although perhaps at a slightly slower pace. Unlike last week's festival of national polling, this week was more of a passing shower than a freaking deluge. On the bright (?) side, Rasmussen finally came out from under the bed and posted a new horse race poll. Alas, it is a poll of the GOP Presidential primary.

And, indeed, if there is a poll-o-palooza this week, it is in that Republican trainwreck Presidential sweepstakes. There are no less than five national GOPrimary polls, and a couple of state ones, to boot. PPP also offers up their national head-to-heads pitting the President against the GOP field. Add to that new numbers in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, and we get a halfway decent picture of the landscape as we head into the summer.

Other items for you to peruse:

  • When is an incumbent being down by six points good news for that incumbent? When they've spent most of the cycle being down by double digits. A new poll doesn't give Governor Bev Perdue (D-NC) a reason to smile, but at least it gives a reason for her not to frown.
  • Redistmas in Michigan is not the shiny toy of California or Illinois. Nope, it's more like a lump of coal, albeit a pretty damned predictable lump of coal.
  • The House might not (key word: might) have Michele Bachmann to kick around anymore, but that doesn't mean she isn't leaving the public eye (yay!)
  • We have a rare bird: a House poll, in a competitive seat, in a district that is already redistricted. And it is, happily enough, decent news for the Democrats.

All this (and more!) as we head out to parties work hard in our hotel rooms on this, the NN11 edition of the weekend digest.
